France Travel: St. Bertrand de Comminges Fête Médiévale Part I

This lovely little town has organized a really fun medieval fair. Because we are on the pilgrimage route it is called "Fête Médiévale de la Saint Jacques". I think these could be my people! For this festival, and obviously others, a number of medieval re-enactment troupes have camped out in the town. They get to have camp fires in little tiny urban parks! They have real swords! Chain mail! jugglers and contortionists! This is a total blast I have to say. Sword fights, juggling, singing - all too much fun. And who wouldn't want their hand kissed by Robin Hood?

Last night the troupe of medieval re-enactors arrived here in St. Bertrand de Comminges after 3 days of trecking from Chapelle Sainte-Anne. There was a dance and a firelight procession. Yes, anyone who wanted one got a burning brand to march up to the top of town with (our town is dividing into top and bottom - at the top is the cathedral and some houses, the bottom is where we live). Can you imagine your little town letting little kids walk around with burning torches? Me neither. Totally cool. No one was burned either.
