Conrad Campground Floods

One of our favorite campgrounds is on an arm of Tagish Lake. The whole Southern Lakes chain has risen very high this year surpassing the 2007 flood levels. Usually there’s quite a lot of beach at Conrad.

Behind Scapa is normally a lovely little sandy crescent. She was very disappointed!

Only a few camp sites are affected luckily.

Fireweed on the Mountain

As we were driving along the lake Christopher noticed that one of the old burns had popped out with purple fireweed. In the sunlight to the naked eye the hillside has a beautiful purple blush to it. The photos don’t show it quite as vividly as it really looks.

Same mountainside, two different filters.

Swallows Leaving the Nest

The last day we were in Atlin, a number of baby swallows emerged. They were very erratic flyers. Once they found a spot to hang out I would cling onto it and their parents would swoop by and their little baby mouth with all open.

You can just see them on the edge of the boat against the willow brush.

Cinnamon Bear

Driving from Tagish to Carcross this bear and her little cub crossed the road right in front of us.

Then she browsed the brush on the roadside.

She and her cub became invisible very quickly.

Scapa Houseboating

Scapa really enjoyed being on the houseboat.

Our wonderful friends were very patient with her.

Tagish Floods

We drove through Tagish on our way to and from Atlin. The water level had receded a little but the marina was still underwater.

This is a picture of the marina… Exactly.

 They call these super berms.

And that’s the campground. It’s smart to put campgrounds rather than houses close to the water. If it floods out there’s not a lot of damage done.

Atlin Swims

Well I did swim in Atlin Lake this time. Mostly a very quick dive in and scramble out. There are no photos there are photos of our wonderful dog Scapa swimming in the lake.

Mount Adams Trail and Llewelyn Glacier

This year with the houseboat we decided to try a new trail. It’s down the end of Sloco inlet and it leads to the toe of the glacier.

It was pretty damn amazing.

The approach to the glaciers toe was over a boulder field.

I felt like we were in a lord of the rings movie.

We brought back some glacier ice.

Mt Adams Flowers

Gnome Garden

Isn’t it adorable?

I was totally charmed.

I felt I could move right in.

Alexa Marie Houseboat

This is twelve mile beach just across the lake from the village of Atlin.
We had a wonderful few days out on the lake.

The dog in particular enjoyed herself with almost infinite swimming.

The scenery is astonishing.

Teslin Trout

We were out fishing with friends o. Their boat - more specificity Chris was fishing, I was ha fling the dog - when this lovely large trout came along. It had been a number of hours so we were very pleased to catch something.

It became a divine whole cooked fish.

I cooked it on the fire overlooking the lake it came from with mountains in the background.

It was delicious! No pics of it plated since we ate it all! Well, not all but lots of it.
