New Hat

I decided I wanted another hat that was a bit more snug than my last. After a few attempts I got it done a few days ago.

It’s some handspun that I recently made. I used the cables to decrease the size near the crown. It worked!

New Mitts

I lost a kitten today on my walk. This motivates me mightily! I needed to graft the ends and knit the thumbs. Some tense hours later… done! They are washed and are drying in hope I can wear them tomorrow.

And here they are dry. They are made with my own handspun.

Man Cave Clean Up

Last night we had hurricane force winds. When Christopher got out to the barn (man, cave) there was quite a lot of water on the floor it had been driven in through the walls and one of the cracked windows. Unfortunately that’s where he stores a lot of tools as well. So, today’s project was cleaning up the barn! here’s the boys enjoying a much deserved coffee break, with the barn in a much cleaner state.

Signs of spring

This was before the last storm last night, which included hurricane for us wins

Our little heathers are looking joyous in the snow.

And the curly parsley! Still alive.

GrisGris is Good!

We think he’s doing just fine after losing one of his nine lives a few weeks back. He’s short a canine (do cats have canines?) but still hunting successfully. And now relaxing by the fire.

GrisGris

Got hit by a car this morning. The vet says he got off lightly- he’ll need a couple teeth removed, but it otherwise ok it seems.

He’s had pain meds and antibiotics.

Chris and I are a bit shattered. Can you be a bit shattered? We didn’t see him get hit, but we’re outside when he came limping home.

She shed

The boys are working on the deluxe wood shed.

Big Tide Breaches Levy

Another very high tide today has breached the levy a second time in 24 hours.

Normally there is land on the other side of the levy. This is the same spot where there was a sign trumpeting the federal expenditure of 3.4 million dollars on restoration of the dyke. What a farce. There aren’t even exceptionally strong winds today. Just a very high tide. New Orleans is sinking and I don’t wanna swim!

The water is just pouring over the dyke, not just in the first low spot I saw, but all along right behind New Charlie’s Place Restaurant.

Sunday Special: the Upper Clements Trails

Originally Chris and I were going to explore theses trails, but he had to work. Too bad for him. It was beautiful and peaceful. I found a trail that followed the course of a small brook.

It was like walking through a Japanese garden.

The moss on the trees practically glowed neon with greeness.

And I think there were tracks of a bob cat.

And lots of shelf fungus.

And a very happy dog!

Friday Hoar Frost

Friday the whole world was white with fog and hoar frost. When the sun came up it was hard and glittering.

Someone left their soldiers to keep an eye on the French Basin.

SnowMageddon: Breaking Trail

I’m a bit late posting this, but it’s till pretty cool. Days after the snow stopped I was still the first person on the rail trail to Digby.

Of course the dog got there first.

Snowmageddon: Digging Out

The snow finally stopped. We did clear our front and side steps a few times each day, but the drifting snow quickly covered them again.

Our cat is the most intrepid cat I’ve ever know. He’s out keeping Chris company.

It was garbage day and our garbage man came!

Our neighbour was very kind and loan us his snow blower.

Our neighbours dog Una is loving chasing the snow.

Stormy Cornbread

This weather is rather cozy as long as you don’t have to be outside. I made chowder and corn bread delicious! My friend Rebecca makes the best cornbread and shared her recipe.

Yummy!

SnowMageddon Part 3

I walked to the grocery store to get some cornmeal and it was quite an adventure. As I blew through the doors, I said to the woman behind me, it’s like the winters of my childhood. She said it’s like all the winters of her childhood packed into one weekend!

The county has brought out the heavy duty, snow, clearing equipment.

Snowmageddon Part 2

It’s still snowing! As I thought the power is going out for some Nova Scotians.

We still have power and are prepared if it does go out. Wood cook stove! Our cat went out- we think he is crazy, but there was only a slight hesitation when he stepped off the deck and the snow hit his belly. 🤣

SnowMageddon

Holy cow! It is still snowing.

It may not look like much, but it has been snowing for 24 hours. We’ve shoved twice already.

Witch Hazel

These wete supposed to be pictures of the witch hazel blooming, but the cat decided he has to be part of the shot.

The witch hazel is Jalena.

There’s a dog too.
