Kittens

Aren’t we all susceptible to kittens? Our friends are fostering four stripy kittens right now.

Some of them are a little “spicy“. One of them at the vet they went for their check up yesterday.

SOFAAR Demo Day

I did a demo day with a whole pile of other fibre artists in the Society of Fibre Artists of Annapolis River (SOFAAR).

Me with my display.

It was a beautiful day outside, so I made sure to take lots of breaks to enjoy that beautiful day. I really enjoyed meeting with all of the folks who came by to check out what I was doing. My favourite were the sisters from Newfoundland who talked about their childhood sheep flock that they would take their fleece down to the brook to scour and then lay them out in the field to pick out the sticks and bags.

Norwegian Style Mittens

I love the mittens that result from this free pattern in Ravelry: Norwegian Selbu Mittens. This is the fourth pair I’ve made. It’s a bit complex doing the colour work, but they are mittens, so it’s achievable.

Daubin's Butcher Shop

You gotta love a butcher shop that not only has great quality food and high cleanliness standards... but has chickens roaming the parking lot and cows beside the shop happily chewing their cuds.

Xmen v. Axmen

We enjoyed watching the homecoming game. Acadia lost.

Harvest Moon Trail in Kentville

We overnighted in Kentville and enjoyed a short walk on their portion of the Harvest Moon Trail. It runs from Grande Pre to Annapolis Royal.

Piping Plovers on Martinique Beach

They have amazing camouflage!

Musquodoboit Harbour Elementary School

This is the elementary school I went to lo these many years ago. Not a school anymore, not sure where the elementary school is now. The candy shop across the street is a brewery now.

Kentville Pumpkin People

The town of Kentville does this fun autumnal thing with pumpkins. When we drive into town I was initially convinced they were real people. The real people amongst Them really sold the illusion. Even the dog thought they were really weird - she smelled all their ‘hands’ - the corn stalks sticking out of the sleeves.

Clam Harbour Beach

A fantastic beach day! We really enjoyed ourselves.

Scapa gallivanted all over. The smells were intoxicating to me.

The beach is splendid.

Taylor’s Head Provincial Park

A drive today to a Provincial Park I’d never seen. I figured on a weekday in the midweek it would be quiet. It was surprisingly busy. Particularly with almost all the trails closed due to storm damage (which to my irritation was not noted on the website). It was still lovely. Chris says his favourite beach, and it is lovely.

We did a short trail.

With great views for our picnic. In the woods was a perfect pirate’s hidong place.

Martinique Beach

A nice late afternoon walk on my childhood beach. Scapa loved it!

There was a lovely flock of piping plovers. Like water skeeters on the shore.

And I got too much sun!

The plovers again.

Camouflage for Ukraine: Jessica Lynn Wiebe

Also at the NS Gallery is an experience- you can go and participate in creating a pair of camouflage nets to support Ukrainian troops. You are also invited to share your thoughts in a book that the Canadian ambassador will bring to Ukraine with the nets. The artist is Jessica Lynn Wiebe, a retired Canadian service member. Her work includes pieces that reflect on her war time experience in Afghanistan. I really enjoyed talking to her. I’ll be looking for more of her works.

That’s Chris with the 2 nets in foreground and background.

Summer camo.

Maude Lewis’ House

We visited the art gallery of NS this morning. Now we are going to have to visit the location of Maude Lewis’ house just near Digby. Her entire tiny home fist inside a moderately sized gallery.

Chris admired the wooden eaves troughs. And the art!

Tancook Folk Art

The place we rented has a lovely little trail through the brush with bits of folk art in it.

Wave under boat.

Briar birds nest.

Very attractive to Labradors.

The bell rings.

Duck!

Don’t hide your light under a bush.

The elementary school with various farming implements.
