Opening up after Covid?

I know there must be more air travel and people going from place to place because today for the first time in I can’t remember how long, I saw three aircraft in the sky at the same time high up above. I think that this part of the Yukon must be a regular route over the pole to Europe. Before Covid we would see strings of aircraft like beads on threads of contrails headed across this sky in one direction or another,  but only lately have I seen any at all. And today walking the dog three!

Cute Dog Pics

Yes... we can't help ourselves... our labs are cute... all in their own way. Even though this one is a total beast... we love her.

Yukon Lawn Mowing...

Sarah actually went over our lawns with the mower to get the fallen leaves. The lawn stopped growing a while ago...

Gardens Mulched

I usually run out of time to put my gardens to bed and mulch them. This year we’ve been blessed with quite a long warm fall. So I was able to get the soil out of the pots added to my back garden beds mow up and mulch the leaves and add those to the garden beds too.

It was a beautiful sunny day. We had coffee on the deck and talked about our renovation, and then got down to some more work.

Winter is Coming

The leaves are gone and there’s snow in the mountains.

And the tamarack is golden.

And the fox is hunting.

And the garden is frozen.

Packing Up

Scapa is certain we plan to leave her, and is insisting on being under foot as we pack up boxes to mail to ourselves in Nova Scotia.

Fall Swans

I heard on the radio this morning that due to the historic high water levels and most of the southern part of Yukon the swans are having to change their migration and feeding pattern slightly to try and find areas where their long swan necks can reach the food. I have been just thrilled to see many many flights of swans as I’m out on my daily walks around Riverdale.

I wasn’t swift enough getting my camera out but force winds just crested the hell above my head - were so close I could almost reach out and touch them.

Scapa's First Hunting Exposure

First exposure to bird hunting... check. No fear of guns and gun noise... check. Desire to get to the downed birds... check. Significant anger at being left in truck while boys shot grouse... check. One inadvertent grouse flushing that Christopher's hunting partner Joe was able to shoot... check. Tons of training to go before we have a quality bird dog.

Whitefish Camp

I was impossible to get a picture of the starry sky, so think about the most beautiful start sky and that’s what we got. Even had some aurora borealis.

Fat fish! We packed this one up for an elder who is out of town. She’s hanging out in the freezer.

Camp Robber aka Grey Jay

The brazen thieves were on our case at fish camp. One stole croutons from the dressed salad, one landed on Christopher’s thanks giving plate, the pair worked on cleaning the flesh from the moose scapula.

OUR WHITEHORSE KITCHEN

Still loving our kitchen window setup in our Whitehorse Kitchen. Every time I look at it in different light... and with the different looks of the Mock Orange tree behind... is unique. Here's hoping we'll find some amazing stained glass to put in our Nova Scotia windows.

NOVA SCOTIA CJA PICS

Christopher had great intentions of many explanatory blog posts... about the remainder of our Nova Scotia trip. Best of intentions... out the door. Please see a bunch of Topher's pics from the rest of our quick week in Nova Scotia seeing our new to us house.
