Yellow With Weld

Until this spring I’d never heard of the dye plant weld. A fellow guild member offered me some seeds and I threw them in the back of one of my raised beds. They didn’t get a lot of light so didn’t really grow much. I wasn’t even planning to harvest it. Then I heard from Janice how well her weld did and I thought; ‘why not try it?’

I’m so glad I did!

The plant looked like nothing

I stuffed the washed leaves in a laundry bag and simmered it, left it overnight, then simmered it again.

I managed to harvest a mid sized zip lock full and that died my two hanks of yarn the lovely intense yellow of a neon lemon. Fantastic! One hank was a grey yarn, so that came out an olive colour.
