London Travel: South London's Camberwell

We've agreed that this is a great up and coming neighbourhood. I am reminded of Vancouver's East side and Chinatown because of the vibrant mix of artsy, bohemian types and the street scene devoted to a myriad of ethnic foods and essentials. We love the families partying in the park on the weekend. They bring everything - from TV to beer, from BBQ to lounge chairs; then at the end of the party, they take it all away again and clean up their mess. We are thrilled by Fowlds cafe on the corner that has amazing coffee, baked goods, and late openings with booze on Thursdays and Fridays.  We love that the dog can go with us almost everywhere. We love the thrift shops with their swift turn over and great staff.

We especially love the East Street Market which needs more love frankly. Everyday (except Monday when it's not happening) it has most of the same things, fruit, veg, undies, hats, shoes, dresses and watches; then some days it has other things, like second hand clothes, fabric by the yard and hot food. There are a number of empty pitches, which is sort of sad to see, we love these open air markets with their vendors yelling prices and enticing custom.
