Takahara

The hike was only 4.5 km, but it was all uphill. 

Someone knit these shrine gods touques to keep the warm. They were on the trail. 


This is the shrine in Takahara- in the background is what is reputed to be a 1,000 year old camphor tree. 

Our lovely guest house for the night - Suzushiro is just down the hill. Here’s the view from the deck:

Valley of mists is one translation for the area below. I’d choose to live here too.
