The Habitation at Port Royal

One of the nice things about a late start to my workday is there’s time in the mornings to do other things. Yesterday we finally made the time to go over to the habitation in Port Royal and tour through the national historic site. You can see immediately why they chose the location. It has a commanding view over the Annapolis basin.

The interior was organized around a central square with a well, blacksmith, trading post, feasting hall, kitchen, atelier sail loft and accommodations. The buildings themselves were pre-fabricated in a French shipyard before the adventurers set sail.

The front door to the Fort.

The central courtyard.

The kitchen shelves.

And the cooking area.

Atelier.

The banqueting room.
