The 6$ Tomato

I am a sucker for heirloom tomatoes ever since a germinal experience at a quirky winery in the Similkameen. The Hungarian vintner offered a beautiful tomato, sliced with a belt knife and sprinkled with a little salt. Eureka! The Ur tomato. I've been searching for more of that flavour ever since.
Thus, when I saw this specimen I had to try it. I estimate it weighed about a pound which would've cost four dollars. In fact it was a pound and a half and cost six. Oh well, as my Nana would've said, 'in for a penny, in for a pound'.

And here's my lunch. A sort of new age ( do I mean millennial?) Caprese salad.

Pretty tasty, but not the pinnacle of tomato flavour. Sigh. I'll keep searching.
