Fish Camp

Salmon drying in the sun.

Strips of salmon curing in the sun. After they are tacky, they'll be put near the smokey fire. Some of them will be frozen for half-dry fish, others will be completely dried and stored in an outdoor cache.

A single salmon roe. Females are released if they are alive when the boys pull the net.

The roe is dried for future use.

This monster Chinook is called a King in Canada. In the States all Chinook are called Kings.

One morning's haul.

What a head! The gills are cut out, then the heads are boiled and eaten. A delicacy for some.

The fish drying and smoking.

The new 'summer kitchen' that Paul and Eddie built.

The backbones are dried and smoked to use for winter soups and dog treats.
