V&A Day 2: We’ve Come to See the Tapestries

I have a real fondness for decorative arts and cloth in particular. The V&A has hosted the Raphael Cartoons - paintings that were made to become tapestries - for a long time. They remain astounding. There are oodles of other tapestries to see.

I discovered through my travels through the gallery that I really like the very early ones. The colours and details are so vivid. You can practically smell the metal and leather in this armour in a tapestry made some time in the 1600’s.

And the red velvet gown. It’s almost hard to believe it’s tapestry.

And this monumental piece that’s a hunting scene - bears and boars.

Lots of chatting couples.

This gallery was very dark. I really liked the field of flowers at the base.

And trees in the upper.

And there’s more.

Look at the colours!
