Bath: No. 1 Royal Crescent

I’ve been to this home turned museum a number of times over the decades. I’m very impressed with it’s re-vamp. Limited entry was also much appreciated- very few folks are wearing masks even indoors.

The table is set for an imaginary aristocratic family who have come to Bath for the season -  Winter. Just called ‘the season’ ina classic British assumption that anyone who needs to know understands. For more, watch Bridgerton.

The rooms are laid out with objects from the era and interpretation by actors whose voices you hear as you walk through the rooms. A little drama about a day in the life.

I found below stairs particularly interesting. Not everything was explained, but it appears that this particular house had a cistern and a well. What I didn’t get is where the sewage went… the lawn seems unlikely. I was quite impressed with the basement servants areas. Recently re-interpreted after a 2012 renovation there is quite a lot to see.

The clockwork meat cooker and three coal ranges.

Then a scullery.

And the housekeepers rooms
