The Dining Room Floor

After visiting the Diggings in the basement a deep and serious consultation resulted in the decision that the dining room floor was being torn up today. Certainly not what I had on my agenda but what the hell!

As many of you who have renovated before will know, it’s all very chicken and egg. Which comes first? The floor had to come up because we want to get the wood-burning fireplace operable which means we need to have the hearth and the chimney surround built and those have to blend seamlessly with the floor. So then the question was, what do we want the floor to look like? And the answer was well what’s underneath what’s there right now? 

We will just have to look and see.

Wide plank floors. That’s what’s there. With a hell of a lot of nails that have now been removed.

And a start has been made on laying out the hearth for the fireplace.
