Wood Chuck
We got a cord of dry...ish firewood delivered today. Hopeful that our mason will keep coming and we will have a woodstove hooked up some point soon... we had to get it into the basement right quick so the driveway was clear for the trades when they show.
Friends... this is how cold it is in our Nova Scotia House... and how much Sarah wants wood heat... she helped me throw the wood into the basement!!!
So thankful for SARAH'S help as many hands make for lighter and quicker work... now for the stacking.
UFO Mission Mitten Finish
I brought three different pairs of mittens with me to finish in NS. When is a pair with urine I hand spun and began more than two years ago. The other two pairs I picked up from a guild meeting at which the phrase SABLE was used (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy).
They are for Chris.
Scapa likes them too!
Anyway, with a weekend of snow days, I finished a pair of mittens!
They are for Chris.
Scapa likes them too!

Snow Day Accomplishment
Though around here it is a significant accomplishment just keeping power and staying warm... we did manage to do one other thing. For us... putting up one of our new to us light fixtures from Renovators Resource in Halifax... is a big deal. And LO... it looks good. Sarah's space is ready for her to assemble the upstairs curtains now!
Orderly Destruction
Ted Gillis, our fantastic Mason... made space for us in his busy schedule to begin destroying and restoring the terrible work on the fireplace that was done sometime in the 70's or 80's. Basically... our beautiful chimney was being held up by the amazing workmanship above and below the terrible quality work done... and by luck... more than anything. The thimble off the back of the chimney had actually fallen off the side of the chimney and damaged the wall. The careful approach to removal of the thimble and gentle removal of the base and sketchy fire bricks, adding temporary supports , along with careful investigation of what should have been bearing points was VERY IMPRESSIVE. Christopher has rarely seen such clean work by a contractor... everything was left set up for their return (hopefully Monday or Tuesday). Sarah commented that the room looks like an artists palate.
