After a pleasant walk along the lake by the campground we stayed in last night, we hit the highway. Switzerland has some of the most astounding scenery to drive through. We were both reminded of the model train museum at Osoyoos in BC. We swear some of those scenes were copied from beside the highway we just drove. The tunnels were particularly amazing, one of them seems to have been 37km long. There wasn't any check of our passports at the Italian border, we just drove on through. Almost immediately the landscape flattened out. Still beautiful, but not the stunning vistas of Switzerland.
Last night we ended up staying at a rather expensive campground bungalow in Switzerland because it appears that Motels would cheapen the experience and when we stopped driving, that was all we could find. Shocking cost and you have to clean up after your self. If I'm paying 250$ i want someone else to take out the garbage thank-you very much!
So, we started looking sooner for a place to lay our weary heads this evening in Italy. Hence, here we are at an Italian 'hook up' joint just off the highway between Milan and Genoa. I sort of guessed it was a hook up joint, but it has been confirmed by the rolling adds on the TV that include 'free adult movies'. Each parking place has an awning you can close to 'protect' your car (and you from any prying eyes). There's also a day use rate...
tomorrow, Genoa and the ferry to Palermo.
