As was observed to us recently, Italy is another country. There wasn't internet for the last few days of our travels, so I'm catching up now. On Saturday after checking out of the hook-up hotel we managed to get into Genoa, and to the ferry port without incident - well, almost without incident. Nothing is as simple as the GPS maps make out. We stuck our car in a non-parking spot, locked up and went to get out tickets. Success! But no clarity about what to do next. Send the woman to talk to the port workers was the solution. I met a very nice fellow from Palermo (who also has a house in Scopello he invited me to visit ;-) who let me know that we could proceed to the dock area by slaloming through the raggedly parked cars, trucks, RV's and German overland adventure vehicles. I wish we had a photo of it!
The ferry was as lovely as we remember, with marble dance floors and glass elevators. A far cry from the Alaska Marine Highway ferries. This time there was the option of a pet cabin - which we bought - so we could have our dog Isla
with us on the ferry. Awesome.
The ferry took a bit over 20 hours port to port, with loading and unloading time added in.
