One Step Forward, Three Steps Back?

Our plumber had emergency callouts so we hope he shows on Sunday to get his in ceiling work done. The fantastic work by Justin downstairs opening up the brick has shown us how bad three of the corners of the foundation truly are... basically 2 of the 3 worst ones are completely undermined by frost and roots and water and rot. The worst is under the dining room where the beam supporting the house above the brick wall for 12 feet is completely rotted on the bottom 1/3. It will have to be replaced and the brick foundation wall underneath completely rebuilt. This area had two downspouts emptying outside plus runoff from the roof when the eavestroughs weren't cleared... not good in combination with wood, lime mortar and brick over 130+ years. Christopher is trying to console himself by the realization that by finding these issues, it shows we are doing the right thing to save this lovely old lady.
