We had a bit of a layover in Frankfurt, and were thrilled to be able to spend some more time with our friend Jorg. He was kind enough to show us some more of this lovely area. 

First was the old Roman fort, then a living history park where we had a lovely meal. 

Goodbye Winter

This has been one of the more miserable long winters of my memory here in Whitehorse. On my walk to work I officially said goodbye to winter. Monday we fly to Italy and I pray I won’t see ice again for some months. 

Raven Tower

Yesterday when we were walking the dog we noticed this big nest in one of the electrical towers and then Christopher spotted a raven in it. I hope it works out for this pairing 

Lemonade Ski

There’s that funny saying about what do you do when the world brings you lemons, you make lemonade. All this cold weather and the snow we had means there’s still fabulous cross country skiing on our world class ski trails. Today my friend Lenore and I went for a really lovely long ski.

A little late for such a joke. 

Indigo Duvet

This project has been a long time in the building. This weekend after all the mending I decided I wanted to do something more constructive. When we were in France in 2015 we managed to buy some vintage French linen sheets. Then last summer I shibori indigo died one of them. Then at the Haines Alaska Salvation Army [ours closed last year] I found zipper  long enough to use to make the duvet.

Sunday Soup - Borscht

As part of my ongoing commitment to my New Year’s resolution this week I made borscht. I’ve never made borscht before perhaps in part because Christopher‘s maternal grandmother made Ukrainian classics like the native she was. I leaned on a friend for a recipe and voila, borscht. This particular recipe made a blended borsch not the style that either Christopher or I were familiar with. After lashings of sour cream and liberal sprinklings of sausage it was OK. If I was to make it again I think I would make a difference style.
