Even More Classic Tracks

Three days in a row we’ve skied. It was brutal - but beautiful.

There is sun, just not much! We skied around a farmers fields and got amazing vistas.

School bus corner...

Chris worried about me because I fell so far behind. He is off in the distance as a tiny dot.

Here comes Scapa!

Where is Chris?

There!
Yep it was nasty cold out.

The pack is back together- and not far from the car. Phew.

Few more artsy shots.

And glorious mountains

3 Walk Day!

Scapa likes the whole holiday vibe - 3 walks a day is just perfect. Not easy to achieve with such short days.

There are lots of twilight and night walks - dawn isn’t until 10:33 today. She’s made herself right at home here.

And loves the amenities - they are very relaxing.

More Classic Tracks in the Junction

It warmed up to -21 so we thought it would be a bit faster today.  It so much! A tough but worthwhile ski.

Yep. That tiring.

The UNESCO Heritage site Kluane Mountains are in the background.

Can we get going now?

The whole ski is lovely.

St. Elias Ski Club - classic Tracks in Haines Junction

In anticipation of our staycation in Haines Junction I got in touch with the local Saint Elias ski club. They recently started setting tracks on dedicated cross country ski trails in Haines Junction. Yesterday it was a frigid -30 with a crazy amount of humidity, but we still got out there and skied.

Check the map, you don’t want to go to far those temperatures. The car might not start!

Can you see the mountains!?
They are there.

Can we go home now?

I’m a little cold 🥶

Chris let me use one of his ski sweaters, it was perfect.

He wore his Kiwi Swandri.

Road trip!

It turned cold so the car is packed to the gills with everything we might possibly need on the highway and for an almost weeklong stay out in Haines Junction. Scapa is in a very familiar spot to me, from some of our road trips with Isla.  And she seems comfortable about it.

Hill Walk

Scapa's presence has made it so Christopher is comfortable (most times) walking the hill walk just South of our neighbourhood again (Isla's passing). Scapa has officially grown enough already in 4 3/4 months that she can wear some of Isla's winter coats. Not sure how big she's going to be... but we're afraid. In the picture below you can see she's none too pleased about the coat!

Saturday Ski

We have had fantastic skiing conditions this winter.

I stopped for a picture! It felt a lot colder let me say.

Very frosty.

Puppy Pics - she’s big!

She is wearing Isla’s old coat now.

She is so hard to photograph!

On Becoming ... Something

I started knitting this sweater when I was still in law school, sometime around 1998. The wall is a pole worth that I hand spun along with a cotton indigo blend. I spend that too. It never grew into the cardigan that I intended for a whole variety of reasons. It’s been lurking in my stash of unfinished objects [UFO] ever cents. Today it became something. A pair of mittens and a cow/shop/thing to keep your neck warm.

The parts

Mittens cut out of the sleeves.

A bit of I-cord to help keep the mittens tight.

Done!

Sunny Ski

We had a lovely ski on Wednesday- so sunny we struggled to deal with it when taking a picture. What is that sparkly orb in the sky!?

Literally! That bright.

1745 hrs Today

I took this pic today at 1745hrs. SINCE Sarah began working from home early in the Covid 19 crisis... she works many more hours than she used to when at the office. Though she theoretically has more flexibility to take the time she needs during each day for her post- concussion complications... it bothers Christopher significantly because her employer has treated her and others so poorly through the Covid crisis. Sarah works from home because Christopher is at high risk for Covid.
The bosses in the Department of Justice of Yukon have fought her the whole time... trying to force her back to an office where they refuse to make the space safe for employees. All in a small minded approach that bums in seats matter more than actual productivity. They make employees working from home waste time providing a report of thier activities each day. They have threatened firing employees for not returning to the office. Approvals to work from home are metered out and only happen at the last minute. Contrast this to friends and relations who work for Canada and for the BC government. BC makes employees fill out forms to explain their reasons for coming into the office. Christopher's Brother Drew's boss told him to stop applying for time off to go to medical appointmentsand spend time with his family. Canada has sent most of its' employees home since the beginning of the pandemic and now anticipates that many will continue to work from home for good because thier productivity has remained. The small minded approach of Sarrah's department and a couple of others in Yukon has caused significant stress for Sarah and for Chris by extension. In addition, since she has worked from home... if it wasn't for the stress complications... Sarah has been sick WAAAY less than usual. This is because the culture at her office was and still is to come in when sick unless near death's door... spreading thier filth to others. Thanks for listening to Christopher's rant...

Puppies are hard to Photograph!

I got a nice picture- but after lots of false starts!
