Here is the name of the wonderful Consulting Agronomist who gave us a tour of his organic family farm...What a great experience this was... even Sarah admitted it was worth getting up early for ;-)
Tommaso on the left and Gaspare on the right - Gaspare is pruning the quince to give me flowers. |
The quince flowers |
Gaspare collecting various citrus, including mandarin, and orange. |
Gaspare describing his fields - I think they have been in the family a while... |
Bella! |
Tommaso is giving me the Italian name for cauliflower. |
Artichoke - a purple variety which we found particularly lovely |
A good time was had by all! |
Borrage growing wile in the field. |
Citrus orchard |
Gaspare explaining that this particular lemon has a large savory pith, the lemon peel is removed then the remainder is eaten often with salt and olive oil. |
The lemon being prepared for consumption |
Here! Try it! |
The hills around Gaspare's place are beautiful, and the entire area is quite windy often with sirocco winds so it makes sense to make power. |
More fields of verdura |
Guard dog in waiting. His dad is a HUGE mastiff, his mom is a rottweiler. This pup has sad Labrador eyes. I would never try to go to Gaspare's farm without Gaspare! |
