Kings Throne

On my list of things to do this Covid summer mistake Kings throne. It’s situated in Kilani national Park and UNESCO world heritage site. We’ve only ever hiked it once before and it was a long time ago.  It was rather late in the afternoon when we pulled into the parking lot so we didn’t make it all the way to the top but the views were still glorious. The photos don’t do it justice.

The trail there gives you views of what you are heading to. 

It is steep with lots of switchbacks. 

And scree.

Tatshenshini Alsek Park/ Haines Pass

We thought a hike out in the pass would be nice in this lovely weather. Our original plan was sidelined when we saw the crowd (7) of vehicles at the trail head. We decided to try something new and Chris spotted a road leading off the back of the world’s most picturesque gravel pit. 

We turned around at a creek that would have required a bit of wading. But the walk at the light and the mountains were simply breathtaking.

Driving back the scenery and colours were just stunning. 

No cheating! Those really were the colours! 

Camping Lunch

Yum! This year I have been cooking much more in the open fire. It has been a satisfying adventure. 

Dezadeash Fog

Unbelievably on Sunday morning we are woke to gray fog. I think it was actually low cloud given the elevation were at but the effect is the same. breathless.

It’s slowly burned off as the sun came up and warmed everything.

Dezadeash Lake Paddle

The canoe has been on top of the truck all summer, and has made a few outings. It was purely by accident that it came on this camping trip because neither of us anticipated that the lake would be something we could actually paddle. Usually it’s very choppy it’s a shallow lake and it’s always windy. Not this weekend! We did encounter some headwinds on the way back but made it to shore safely.

Dezadeash Lake Camping

This camp site is past Haines Junction adjacent to the Kluane National Park. We love it for the setting and generally bug free nature. More bugs this time because the wind was a mere asthmatic breath of its usual self. 

The morning light was astonishing with the mirror of the lake to reflect the beauty of the fall colours. 

There was an almost full moonlight in the morning sky.
