The Story of the Calabash as told by Gina An angel took shelter in the calabash tree because the leaves are shaped like a cross. The devil threw rocks at the angel to make him fall. Each rock stuck to the limb of the tree instead of falling down or hitting the angel. That's why the calabash fruit are like stones on the tree, not like fruit.
