DARRELL IS BACK! WOOHOO!

Yes... this is what I'm reduced to with this humbling restoration project. I feel the need to celebrate just a little when our finish carpenter (everything) guy is able to come by and do some work for us. Though no rain happened, it was apparently threatening all day according to the forecast... so Darrell came by and did some old floor patching. It will take at least another day or more to complete the patches downstairs... but some progress was made and Darrell is definitely the best man for this finicky finishing work. The worn and patched in boards from the kitchen to the dining room have now been replaced with boards that run the full length. The rotten board uncovered in the parlour has also been replaced... and some smaller patches in the parlour and the apartment upstairs are in process.

🤞 Darrell has even indicated an interest to get the skylights in the granny suite installed this week if the weather holds true with the current forecast. I'm trying not to get my hopes up... but I cannot help myself.

Every Day There Is Someone...

Owning and sharing your life with any dog has its' ups and downs. The positivity, joy, laughter, wonderful company and pride when they do a good job... outweighs all of the frustration and constant testing of authority that smart arse hunting labradors give you. These 'feelings' happen EVERY DAY... both positive and negative. Here is what I came out to witness this morning after Scapa hade her ablutions and a snack... a new level of Squirrel hunting!

Apparently she has at minimum a 5ft vertical jump!

I'm happy to report that the Graff Brothers are back working on Sarah's granite patio on sidewalk. A special shout out to Bruce from SouWest glass for coming and putting in our apartment bathroom shower glass this morning. I'm so happy to see any progress we can accomplishat this point...

I had all the ingredients and so I tried a new to me cooking technique. Salmon en papiotte - in paper essentially. Delicious!

I just wish Chris was here to eat it with me. 

Inside Progress

The beardy boys Kolin and Chance from Trowel and Hammer Carpentry managed to free up a day to help with a couple of jobs around the house.

Firewood Obsession

We may have mentioned before that Christopher may have a 'little bit' of a firewood obsession. In Nova Scotia... you can only get green wet wood each year. Because it is so moist here... you have to season wet green split wood for at least TWO YEARS! This means getting two years worth of wood into the yard and trying to get it to season and dry enough that some will be OK to burn this winter. Our good friend Linda came over today to help me get a start on moving and putting away some of what is in the driveway. this split wood is Heavy. Christopher has some wood storage sheds to build...

Scapa and Topher Go Back To NS

Christopher and Scapa are now back in Nova Scotia... headed back to Annapolis Royal today. We did a layover in Calgary so Scapa could get out of the plane and we would have the best chance for her to travel as easily as possible. 1hr sleep for Topher on the red eye... but at least it went well for Scapa.
