I just missed getting her in the same frame as Chris and Isla. I think I want to try it! It looks so peaceful and wonderful. Flying with no effort.

Kiting?
It is always windy on the hill overlooking Schwatka Lake. Something the ravens love and apparently now kiters.

Chadburn Lake Ski
We took the trail that leads us through miles canyon. Conditions were perfect and we had a great ski. Isla loved it because we dropped some food in the snow which became extra snacks for her!
Amazing skies and clouds.
The camera doesn’t capture the glory of the light- the darkness of the valley contrasting worth the last rays of the winter sun in the mountains.

Isn’t it beautiful?

Christmas is Coming
Now that our birthdays have been celebrated it is time for Christmas! We got our tree last night- a classic tradition in our family where we leave it’s acquisition to the last moment. I decorated this morning. You can see there are enough ornaments for a much larger tree!
Someone in the neighborhood decorates this wild tree on a local trail every year too.

Garbage Truck Santa
Garbage Truck Santa is one of my very favourite Whitehorse Christmas traditions. Its part of our 'colourful 5%'. This photo is from the Yukon News article about him this year. It makes me smile and laugh when I see his lit up truck. It works so well here where it is dark for most of the day - sparkling flashing lights on a garbage truck.

Morovian Lights
At the Vancouver Christmas market we bought ourselves a beautiful red lights. On our walk yesterday we found all of the greenery in the fire smart area. The lights look amazing. The photos don’t do them justice.
We are taking care of a friends cat while she travels. He enjoyed the whole event.

Winter Weekends
Inspired by our friend Angela... we searched the internet and found a good base recipe to try to make a lovely beet and feta salad. We found it on allrecipes.com
Sarah's awesome modification... peel and chunk the beets before coating with EVO salt and pepper before roasting in convection. Gives some additional yummy roasted texture.

In hindsight... Consider adding toasted pine nuts or toasted pecans as well. |
Firesmart
When is the results of the wild fires in Fort McMurray a few years back is that the government of Yukon has stepped up it’s fire smart program. One of our favourite walks behind our house takes us to an area that was recently fire smarted. We both worried that they were actually achieving their goal we noticed how much brush had been left lying around. Well that’s been dealt with now with a bunch of beautiful fires lit all through the woods after a nice deep snowfall.
Christmas Cards by candlelight
We are lounging in bed finishing our Christmas cards over tea by candlelight. Very hugge.

Festival of Lights Van Deusen Gardens
It was another lovely evening at the garden revelling in the lights. I did makes the mistake of choosing a Saturday night so it was stupidly busy which did impair our enjoyment. Next time it needs to rain and be a school night. I was surprised at how many people were in the garden because the tickets have timed entry and they say they only sell so
