50th State Fair in Haines

Heat Wave

This week we’ve had heat warnings in Whitehorse, the first time I remember having such a thing. Climate change is real. I this is a great time to BBQ.

Moon Rise over Dezdeash

Last night on our way to the fair in Haines Alaska we stopped and camped overnight at Dezdeash Lake. We were enjoying the fire when Chris looked out over the lake and said what’s that? We walked out of the trees to the lake shore and watched the moon rise over the mountains. We were very surprised at how quickly the moon changed position. This launched us into a very interesting discussion about the movement of the earth in the solar system.

(Backup) Sheepish Vest Repurposed

After many months of deliberation today I finally took action and turned this vintage sheep vest into a new cover for a Danish modern chair. The chair I got in a yard sale some years ago and have enjoyed in my sewing room ever since. It was starting to need a new cover for the seat. This past winter in Vancouver we happened upon a second hand clothing store where I found a huge vest made out of sheep skin. Even better it was on sale for half price. As soon as I saw it I thought it would make a great a upholstery fabric for the chair.

I feel like a major success after completing this little project. I hope the impetus will carryover so I get other things done.

Arts in the Park

This week the northern fibres guild has been the artist in the park accompanying the musicians. It has been really enjoyable spinning on the lunch hour.
