Keeping Home Fires Burning...
The main power was off today at 10 Bohaker St. to put in a new 200 amp panel... so no power all day. My job as I understand it is to stay out of the way, keep the fire burning and clean up their mess later.
Usually on a day without power... things are pretty quiet. Not so today. Our carpenter Wayne is putting a skim coat on the walls in the front entry, stairwell and upstairs landing. And boy are the electricians loud in the basement with thier headlights, music and power tools.
Today is the first snow of this winter in Nova Scotia for Scapa and Christopher. Scapa, as always, thoroughly enjoyed her morning Frisbee romp all over the grounds at the fort. She is currently sleeping it off... alternating between the fire and the couch.
Here are a few pics from today.

Finishing Off The Week in the Annapolis House
A few pics to show what else was accomplished this week. Our painter Chris and Carpenter Wayne were unbelievably generous working through the weekend to try to get as much done as possible before the boss gets back...
Christopher stripped the wallpaper off the last wall in the front entry... uncovering what had been an old closet door. Wayne fixed another sticky outy brick thimble and did a bunch of mudding and plaster repairs. Chris the painter completed the coats on the flooring in the gramma suite and the upstairs hallway. It is stunning. he also stripped, primed and put first coats on two doors for the granny suite.
The Dark is Rising
That’s the title of one of my favourite young adult books by Susan Cooper. Her setting was England, which is geographically northern, so the days do get short there. Here in Whitehorse the sun doesn’t rise until 11 am. I embrace the Scandinavian ethos of lighting candles to rage against that dark. It is still very hard to get out of bed in the deep cold dark.

Spinning an Advent Calendar
My amazingly thoughtful sister-in-law found and gifted me a fibre advent calendar from Etsy. I’m using it as an excuse to carve out some creative time during the chaos of our move. I laid in bed one morning and thought about how I wanted to spin it. Did I want to wait until after Christmas when all of the days were open? Did I want to try and blend them?. In the end I decided that I wanted the little joy of opening each days package. And then, as time allows spin it. Hopefully that day or soon after. And what kind of yarn did I want?. In the end I decided to spin it sort of medium so that I could ply it either against itself, chain ply it or possibly ply it with another handspun. Here’s the first four days on the bobbin.

Mountain View
I’m totally surprised to find we have a mountain view from the front windows of our tiny house. A nice treat.

Foxy Business
It seems like the fox might’ve moved into the doghouse in her absence…
He’s definitely listening to us talking about him. But not deigning to turn his attention to us.
