Olympic Knitting Day 7

Well, I think I am about half way. Downside? I don’t have half my yarn left! I don’t know where it all went!! I hope it is enough. If not, I can make a little bit more, but not a lot, since the ingredients are almost gone. 

I was chatting with Dad last night and he was surprised that I enjoy watching biathlon. For me it is really engaging. The idea of shooting and skiing - life skills! Plus we count among our friends the parents of a kid who is on the Canadian development team, and the local Whitehorse biathlon tracks are among my favourite to ski. 

Dining Room Brickwork Done

Fantastic visual progress today... our central chimney is now safe and supported. The thimble hole has been bricked up, all of the stretchers, soldier bricks and the firebox is now lined. Chimney to be attached tomorrow! Allowed a fire a week later... we're getting close. We'll do another post to explain why we have such a tiny stove.

Progress Towards Wood Heat.

Darrell stayed late so that the framing would be ready for our Mason Ted Gillis to continue his work. The professionalism of these guys and the respect they hold for one another is impressive and greatly appreciated.

More Ice Storm Pics

The day after the ice rain finally stopped the sun came out and it was just gorgeous. Treacherous, but gorgeous. 

Our yard was like an ice rink. 

We hope the rhododendrons will make it. 

More Olympic Knitting

I’m making good progress with my Olympic project. Mens biathalon + knitting. The time difference is weird. I don’t know if I like knowing how it turns out. It did get me to watch the highlights of the team ski jump, since the self funded Canadian ski jumpers got a bronze. 

Disturbing Labradors

Scapa had to take the day off from exercise 'cause she hurt one of her 'heel pads and was bleeding all over the hard packed icy snow. This evening she set a new level of disturbing smartness. While her 'lazy' parents were sitting on the couch watching Eddie The Eagle inspired by the winter Olympics... Scapa brought us the following in this order (one at a time)... 3 Booties (as one had blown out on her last walk), both of Sarah's Yaktrax, both of Sarah's running shoes, both of Christopher's outdoor crocs, her 'gator toy' and her leash! We are going to be doing a lot more walks if she keeps this up.

Olympic Knitting

I challenged myself to spin the yarns and knit a third shawl from Sylvia McFadden’s ‘Gentle Armour’ pattern book. 

I hand carded a blend of light grey Shetland fleece, dark grey alpaca and grey angora. A soft blend that spun up a medium dark grey two ply yarn. 

I cast on Friday watching the opening ceremonies. Yesterday I made it through the set up rows watching the womens skiathalon. Now I’m watching the mens skiathalon.
