Orkney Cats

I’ve really enjoyed all the lovely, friendly cats on the Islands. First there was Tommy, a Lerwick high street cat who repeatedly wandered into the Dowry during the evening dining. No photos I’m afraid, although we were told he has his own Facebook page. He was lovingly removed by the proprietor twice. Along the way other friendly moggies have crossed my path. This fellow was the first to stop for a photo.

Jarlshof Archaeological Site

One of the best preserved and most important sites in Scotland, or so they say. It was certainly very interesting. I’d never seen a Scottish wheelhouse before this one was very well preserved. The site represents more than three thousand years of history.

Postcards at the Bothy Bar

Technically it’s a pub, not a bar - but that phrase has nice alliteration.

Hjaltland Northlink Ferry

On my way to visit Orkney.

Once out of the harbour the weather turned rough. So rough I couldn’t take a hand off the rail for a photo. I’m normally a good sailor - let me tell you I was happy to reach shore!

Bressay Walk

This morning I decided to take the ferry over to Bressay and go for a walk. The weather has been changeable as ever here. The landscape reminds me of the high arctic - without trees it is very difficult to judge distances.

Sheep in the road!
