Another Couple Days of Progress

Our carpenter extraordinaire Darrell Hudson framed out the 2nd skylight in the T-suite. He tore out one side of the upstairs hall along with some prep of one angled ceiling surface to see if the plaster can be repaired. Topher insulated the hallway bathroom wall for sound and Darrell started drywall in the hallway ceiling before being driven out by a rain of cellulose insulation above. The electricians continued roughing in the T-suite... and it is now fully powered up. Our Mason Ted Gillis generously lent is his labourer/apprentice? Justin to take out the inside layer of bricks in the basement in preparation for sprayfoaming joist ends on Monday... 🤞 Despite working in a small space everyone works amazingly well together. Another local fella has been removing all of the varied insulation in the attic... which will be sprayfoamed Monday then will receive blow in insulation to R50 on Wednesday. The garbage bag pics are the results. The best part? Justin had the idea for Chris to post free insulation on Facebook Marketplace... the insulation has already begun getting picked up! We were overwhelmed by the requests. We could have sold it! That said, we are just glad it is not going into the landfill. Sarah began scraping the ceiling of the T-suite dining area as an experiment to see what level of effort has to be made to prep the calcimide paint (hard and smooth as granite) for repairs and painting.

Reno’s: The Clown Car

Thursday we had … wait while I count… 7, no 8!  Tradesmen - yep - all men in the Reno mix. Carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing and sheet metal. There was a moment where most of them, plus Chris, were in the t suite at the same time. We are still at the destruction stage, with plaster dust insinuating itself into every crack and crevice. 

I don’t have any pictures of the clown car moment since one more person in the room might have used up the last of the oxygen. Here’s a plaster coated husband. 

Another Busy Crazy Day

Today had two electricians, a plumber and helper, Darrell the everything man, a labourer up in the attic bagging insulation, the sheet metal ventilation guy. The house was very busy, loud and messy and new rooms were opened up both intentionally and unintentionally.

Preparation for other trades...

The last few days has seen our carpenter Darrell completing a bunch of work in preparation for the imminant arrival of electricians, our plumber and sprayfoam insulation. The bathroom walls are framed up, the opening has-been framed for the bathroom skylight, the attic hatch has been moved from the T-suite ceiling to the upstairs hallway ceiling and one end of the wall in the upstairs hallway has been opened ready for install of the T-suitw electrical panel.

Problem Solved

Thère are a few parts of the floors in the house where we need to patch in floorboards. The challenge is finding seasoned used floorboards that will not look new when refinished. If seems you can't buy these things. Fortunately, Sarah decided that she wanted tile on the floor of her newly repositioned bathroom. This meant we could remove the top layer of plank floorboards to be replaced with plywood in order to have a more structurally stable surface to tile òn... problem solved. boards found.

A Busy Week Continues

We finally got our 'Sweet Georgia Brown' VW Touareg back from the garage after 2+ weeks. So yesterday we did a road trip to New Minas and hot Happy Harry's and the Home depot... picking up tiles for the T-Suite shower, lighting and other supplies. 2/3 of the forced air ducting has been upsized and rerouted as necessary. Our fantastic electricians Tim and Jordan from Charles Stewart Electrical have wired up the main house bathroom upstairs for its future layout and begun work in the kitchen putting in LED task lighting around the perimeter, a couple plugs near the sink and a couple plugs in Sarah's pantry. Darrell has made sure that Sarah's Study is now complete so she can move in for good.

In the morning light all out work of yesterday is looking pretty good. 

The kitchen feels big and open. It isn’t very often you get to teat drive a new kitchen layout.
