The Hemming Episode
I do enjoy nice clothes. Both my parents had style. My mom was more aux courant, with mad keen sewing skills. My dad had a vintage vibe - wearing his Saville Row suits until they were back in style again. In recent years my mother’s ‘I remember that from the first time around’ has echoed in my mind, memory and ears more than once as I find myself saying it. On the other hand something’s really are timeless. What those things are, each person needs to decide for themselves. Timeless means you wear it with style, confidence and sass. Because of my work, I’m always on the lookout for a nice, conservative wool suit. I always have to hem the sleeves, pants and skirt. Gone are the days when this service is offered in store - although I barely remember it. Now you are lucky to find someone who can do it. People seem content to have ill fitting clothes. Go figure. Standing in line waiting to purchase my various articles of clothing I bonded with two women who needed to have their garments modified. One, whose mother was still living, it’s going to take them to her. The other was hoping that on her visit to Europe she be able to get the suit jacket tailored to fit. We all agreed clothes look nicer and we look better when garments are tailored properly.

Ottawa Highlights
We had a great time in Ottawa. We rented bikes and rode them everywhere, which may have slightly made up for all the good food. I have a real fondness for Ottawa which has all the charms of a small town but the architecture of a capital.

Ottawa meetings
I like Ottawa. I still haven’t gotten over the thrill of being in our nation’s capital.

New Westminster - Who Knew?
I walked the waterfront in New Westminster today after visiting Dad and Ali, family and friends. Boy has New West changed... construction everywhere you look. A beautiful water front walk... Residences over on the Fraser River island that used to be all industrial. Lots of gentrification to go but pretty impressive.

Scandinavian Airlines food
I was on a number of Scandinavian Airlines flights and quite enjoyed their little snack boxes. Each was a pleasant surprise and wonderfully efficient packaging.
Cute hunh?
I think other airlines could take a tip from them. They also put a great emphasis on the reduction of packaging in particular single use plastics. I just covered from chatting with an Air Canada flight steward that Air Canada also recycles their single use plastic cups when they’re coming back into Canada. I think they should make more of a big deal of that myself.

Stavanger Sights
A wonderful Raveler was kind enough to meet me at the airport hotel and take me for a little drive around Stavanger. Even though it was dark we saw the three swords which commemorate the unification of Norway - and if I understood the war which resulted in the Vikings seeking other places to live. If they’d stayed they would have become the new kings slaves. So, understandably they sailed off looking for greener pastures. Much to the dismay of those who were in the pointy end of the sword.
The port was quite pretty and I wished I’d arrived in the daylight.

Stavanger Airport Knitting
There’s a little knitting station set up at the airport to help you pass the time. Though I must say I don’t encourage you to arrive early here.
