Olympic Knitting - Gentle Armour

I’m challenging myself to knit a lace shawl during the Olympics. Not something normally that I do, but that’s the point of the Olympics, a challenge. Because I’m a spinner with lots of fleece,  I spun the yarn for this project as well. It’s a 50-50 blend of polypay wool and white alpaca. The inspiration for this project was two fold, seeing a finished version and the pattern book at Knit City  in Vancouver, and the gift of a shawl pin from a friend.

XC Ski Day

Our Snow conditions have been all over the map. Today, since it wasn’t incredibly cold we thought we go for a cross country ski at our local trails. It’s a bit too cold to be in that cross country sweet spot there’s not that much glide, but it’s too beautiful to be outside.

Melt! Melt! Melt!

For the second time this winter the temperatures have been far above zero. All the beautiful snow we got has melted into mush. Mush and ice. The going is so treacherous it is hard to get anywhere. For my morning walk to work this morning I chose the wrong footwear. I couldn’t find my rubber boots, and thought that I could make do with my sneakers and socks. Boy was I wrong. The puddles we’re over my ankles freezing cold ice water. By the time I got to work I am mediately stripped off my sneakers and socks, and warmed my feet on the concrete floor.

Foxy

The number of fox in our neighbourhood has steadily increased to the extent that they are very common. One followed me home from the grocery store last week.

This one was using the wood shed this morning to get a birds eye view of the garden.

Snow! Snow! Snow!

We got 8 inches in the last few days and I am loving it. Chris used the snow blower for the first time this year and we went for a wonderful ski at our local trails.

The original Harvey’s Hut burnt down last year - arson by local kids. It is an ill wind that blows no good, the rebuilt Harvey’s Hut is so much nicer than the old one!

Since Chris had the snow blower out he did our neighbor’s place - he loves that machine.
