Up at the crack of dawn

last night there was thunder and lightning, as a result I was up ungodly early. I did some gardening done before I had to start work.

It might not seem like much, but I’m pretty excited about this garden sculpture. I made it out of Willow that we cut from one of the places that I walk the dog.

Peepers!

Peepers are Little, loud frogs that sound off as one of the first true signs of spring. I don’t have a photo because I’ve never seen one for real. I’ve seen photos, but that’s all. Today we stopped at the Lequille Country store and I could hear them for the first time this year. There was a symphony of peepers.

Spring Flowers

I love snowdrops and we are lucky enough to have quite a number of them in our Nova Scotia garden.

I’m not alone, lovers of snow drops are called ‘galanthophiles’. The Latin name for the common European snowdrop is galanthus nivalis. There are many names varieties and I could easily become a collector! We also have various types of crocus, iris reticulata (Dutch or dwarf iris) and some heather in bloom.

Etch-a-sketch Weather

I remember having a lot of fun with my etch a sketch as a kid. Making a drawing and then shaking it so that you’d have another blank slate to draw on. There’s something about that physical memory that keeps coming back to me every time I check the weather forecast and it’s still below -25. I shake my phone as if that will somehow change the reality of this never-ending freezing cold winter.

Pom-poms bedazzled world

Arctic winter games finale

The games wrapped up this afternoon with the street party downtown. It warmed up to a balmy -14°C so I got all my winter gear on and went out to enjoy it briefly.

Protest Hat

I somehow missed knitting one of the pussy hats during the last Trump administration. Remember those hats? They look like they had little kitten ears on them?

Anyway, being on a news diet, I hear about things in unusual ways. So I heard from my US knitting friends about the latest protest hat it’s modelled on a hat that the Norwegian’s were during the Nazi occupation in the second world war. I went out and bought myself two balls of Norwegian yarn and finished knitting it last night.

Quilting Retreat

I’m in a quilting retreat all weekend. It’s a fun way to get projects done and be social.
